Hello and welcome to ‘Ask Slater’, our Support tech’s weekly column where he addresses questions commonly asked by our userbase! Our question today comes from Tibbles from Awesome Site.
Tibbles writes:
“Slater,
I have gotten my site set up so that I love the way it looks and am ready to get my guild to join. When my officer tried to register, though, he said he got a message that his username was already taken.
I looked at our site, and I’m the only member. His username isn’t taken. Why is it saying it is?”
Tibbles,
User names are unique to the entire Guild Launch system, not to a specific site, so that users only need one login for all the guilds they may be a part of. While your officer’s name is not being used on your guild site in particular, it may have been taken by one of the over 2.5 million users already in the system.
One way to get around this is to have the user register an account with a special character in their username: Tibbles might be taken, but T!bbles might not be.
Users can also set their account to post as a specific character on a specific site. That way everyone on your site will know exactly who they are, but they will still have the unique handle for their Guild Launch account.
A user can set their account to post as a specific character on their User Profile. Clicking the ‘Guilds’ tab will bring up this menu:

Each character that user has claimed on a guild site will be available in that dropdown. Just have them select the character, click ‘Set Character to Post As’ and they’ll be set!

If you have a specific question you think would be perfect for these articles, send us the request at support@guildlaunch.com and Slater will personally review it and – after answering the ticket so you have the answer – potentially post it here with your username and guild site. If you would rather not have your username and site posted, Tibbles from Awesome will ask the question on your behalf for Slater to answer.
