Feature Friday: Launch Code!

The site is done! You’ve widgetized the columns to show off everything your guildies could want, uploaded an awesome site header and have finally posted the link in guild chat so that all your friends can join and talk off-site.

It’s a great recruiting feature, but you don’t want your current userbase to feel left out. Having them fill out a lengthy application meant for new members might make them feel frustrated and unloved – “I’m ALREADY a member of the guild,” they might ask, “why do I have to send an application?”

The good news is, they don’t!

The Launch Code functionality allows a user to circumvent the application process on a site. You as the site owner – or a user with the appropriate permissions, if the site owner has assigned officers and the like – can set a Launch Code on the application page. This code, which can be up to twenty characters, can then be given to your guild members.

You can find this option on the Admin menu, under the ‘Recruiting’ tab, by editing the application itself.

They will still need to click the ‘Apply to Guild’ link, but on that page they will have the option to enter the Launch Code. If they do, then they are accepted on the site automatically – there’s no need to manually approve them in the Pending Applications setting, and they can start posting right away!

If they need advanced permissions (if they’re an officer, for example), you will still need to manage that admin-side, but for the current rank-and-file of your guild site, this feature gets them on the site without having to fill out a full application for your site.
