I’ve been trying to add Youtube videos to my guild site.  We have a couple of raid strategy videos we want everyone to see, and it would be great to have them on the site directly instead of just having a link.

I know you have the answer.  How do I do it?

There are a few different places you might be trying to embed the video.  I’m not sure exactly where you’re trying to put it, so I’m going to scattershot this and tell you how to do it for all of them!

The Forums

You may be trying to embed a raid video on your guild forums so that your players can discuss it, talk tactics and take that boss down!  If so, you will need to use the video embed code.

Just take the URL of the Youtube video, put the tags on either side (or highlight the video URL and select “Video: Youtube (URL)” from the Video BBCode Extensions dropdown) and you’re ready to post it!

That’s how the finished product appears.

Custom Pages and Sections

Some users like to set up raid strategies on a new tab specifically for their raiders.  This is a little different from posting it on your guild forums, but it’s still a straightforward process.  On the custom page, click the ‘HTML’ button to edit the HTML directly:

Once you do that, you just need to copy and paste the embed code from Youtube.

“But Slater,” you may ask, “where do I find the embed code?  Is that the URL again?”

It isn’t.  If you post the URL it will show on the site, but just as text.  Below each youtube video is a button that says ‘Share’ – click that, then click ‘Embed’ to get the HTML embed code.

Copy that HTML code into the HTML box, submit it and you’re done!

HTML Widget

Finally, you may want to embed the video into the honorable HTML widget.  The good news is that this is similar to the custom page embed.  You get the embed code from the video, click the ‘HTML’ button while editing the widget and paste it in!  Submit the changes and you are done!
