Urgent Server Maintenance
Greetings,
A RAID array on our primary database server is showing an issue with one of the disks. There has been no data loss, and the site is running fine. This situation is why we use RAID arrays.
The disk needs to be replaced though to ensure optimal data safety and performance. We will be replacing the disk Sunday morning 7/19 at 5:00am CST. This will require about 10 minutes of downtime to reboot the server and may result in some reduced site performance for a few hours, but load should be low enough at this time that the impact will be minimized. I will be placing the site in maintenance mode for 30 minutes while the server is brought down and to begin the rebuild. I will then bring all sites back up.
Thanks for your patience.

Re: l2get hot swap
The server has hot swap drives. The datacenter techs are recommending a reboot when we do this, so I'm going with their recommendation. A few minutes of downtime in this situation is acceptable even if not preferable.

you guys using dell or hp? at my job I use HP Blade Servers (C3000) enclosures and their hardware has been surprisingly stable.

Dell hardware mostly. Our hardware has been rock solid as well. Drives do fail and we use RAID to maximize uptime and minimize the effect. This wasn't anything that I wouldn't expect to happen occasionally and we have the right system (Raid 10) in-place to deal with it.
