Site Slowness - July 3rd 2007
UPDATE 4:15 - June 3rd
After a few brutal and painfull hours of slow site response we appear to have resolved the site slowness problems. In the end, there was a few issues going on. One, a DNS issue was effecting the database and 2, a TIME_WAIT setting on the server needed to be adjusted for some reason. I'll keep popping the Tums and we will keep monitoring the site, but hopefully this is behind us.
We sincerely apologize for the slowness today and we appreciate your patience.
-Stephen
UPDATE 1:15 - June 3rd
I believe we have tracked the issue down to a bad DNS entry. The bad DNS entry was causing the database machines to refuse connections from the web machines or to inconsistently refuse them.
We've fixed the database side but the same problem seems to be effecting outbound connections to you guys from our web machine so the site still has not returned to full speed.
We understand the annoyance this causes and appreciate your patience. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
Slowness - July 3rd 2007
We are aware of the site running slow today and we believe we have tracked down the underlying cause. We added new machines to our system earlier this week and they were placed on our private network in our collocation facility this morning.
It appears that someone at our vendor who sets up the machines may have misconfigured them and the machines are not communicating with each other properly.
We'll update you all as we know more.
