RELEASE: Version 3.8 - WoWHead Itemstats & More
Version 3.8 - Release Notes
Major Features
New Everquest II Template
Vicki has added a ROK themed template to the database. Enjoy!
Enhancements
DKP Pool Default Settings
You can now set any DKP pool to be the default. This will put it at the top of the list and this pool will be automatically selected when a pool is not specifically chosen by the user.
Setting a default pool is optional. If you do not set one, the first pool created on your site is used as the default.
WoWHead Itemstats
WoWHead is now the primary source of item stats. You can retrieve the WoWHead info for existing items by refreshing the item. New items will get WoWHead data by default.
* We're updating all of the icons from WoWHead right now. It's going to take some time. There are about 25,000 items in the database and the Item Icon Fairy has to go out and get the icon for each one.
With this release we've also added an item refresh tool to the admin area. You can get to it by going to Admin->Content Tab and clicking on the "Refresh Items" list on the left side under the "Item Stats" heading. The way the tool works is you type in the item name, the existing itemstats info is shown and you can click on the Refresh link to refresh it. In the next release we will be removing the Refresh link from all the links on the site, which should improve the look of the item links.
Forum Post Styling Icons
We've created new more stylized icons for the "Bold", "Italic", "Image", etc. icons in the forums. This is the first part of a visual refresh for the forums. We're trying not to make too crazy of changes, but to modernize the look and feel a bit.
Character Class/Race/Etc.
The settings for a Character's class and race are now editable after creation.
Bug Fixes
- Some of the Raid icons were overlapping such as anything with "zul" in it being considered as Zul'Aman, this has been fixed.
- An issue where spaces could sometimes be inserted into forum names has been resolved
- A few instances of the incorrect character set being applied to pages have been fixed.
- An issue where the member list couldn't be filtered by class has been resolved.
- The WoW news feed occasionally has no target link defined. Instead they have links in the body. Since we don't use the body text of the item this isn't useful for us. Previously this would lead to broken links. We now point to the WoW news page if a link is unavailable.
- A rare click path was found that could lead to Raid data being entered into a non existent, usually recently deleted, raid pool. The application has been changed to check that the given raid pool is valid. If it isn't then user is redirected to the members page with a message that the provided pool was invalid.
- Enchanting items were not being properly added to Guild's craftable item search. This has been fixed.
Performance Improvements
- We're handling base guild configuration data a bit differently and caching a bit more of the data. This reduces the query load and should improve performance slightly on every page load, but will definitely improve scalability.

We're about 2/5s through the item updates. You can see where this is going... we'll be here a while.

I can put it on the wishlist. At a minimum, and a quick solution, we could probably provide a race updater so that you can clear out the unknowns.

Would it be possible for site admins to have access to the character editing feature for their guild?

I assume you are looking at load times in Firebug? That image is 1200 bytes so I'm not sure why it would load slowly. It's probably just some fluke thing.

Love the new forums post icons although the "link" one seems to be loading slow for me (139.37s).

UPDATE 3/21 8:12 AM EST
We are about 4/5s of the way through the item cache refresh. There was a block of garbage items that I had to manually work through so it took a bit longer than I hoped but it is back to running unattended now.

Oddly enough I'm getting a few items that take me to Thottbot instead of Wowhead...are these transient or is there a failover type thing when the item cannot be found in Wowhead it goes to Thottbot?
For example:
Pattern: Belt of the Long Road
Pauldrons of the Wardancer
both of those pull up Thottbot.
Just curious more than anything, hehehe...
