Guild Launch News
RELEASE: GL V. 5.2 - PlayXpert, Raid Rostering & More
Hey guys,
I'm Jesse the community manager over at Playxpert. I just wanted to chime in here with a couple things and offer my support.
As far as Vista goes, we're on track to have it out January and x64 will be coming out after that. It's just the overlay aspect that doesn't work currently on those platforms as well, the client still works out of game and will auto-update when our Vista-ready drivers are finished.
We're really looking forward to our future relationship with Guild Launch and I hope you guys enjoy your new Community Tools!

Not a stupid question at all :P
While people can make their own widgets...we keep our widget architecture isolated from our core driver technology so there's no risk of that.

So - I'm on Vista. Bottom line is this won't work in-game for me until January? Just trying to clarify as I thought using it in-game was it's purpose.
Vista and 64-bit support are coming in January. The tool will run in Vista 32-bit, but it won't overlay.

Running it in-game is definitely the purpose. Vista support for the overaly is coming soon though. I was just noting that it will run in case anyone wanted to take a look so they would understand it does run on Vista.

The in-game overlay is definitely the defining feature and our main focus, but it is a standalone application. A lot of people use it on Vista for the universal chat.

This looks like a great addition, from creating raid roster in game, to the balancing of the in game epgp to the site I can see i will make great use of this, so thanks.
Q: I browse using Firefox do the guys at PXP plan to implement or partner with mozilla to enable this great browser as a plug-in?
Q: No-Script, love it, does PXP have any plans to implement functionality like this in your web browser Jesse?

PlayXpert looks very useful but I noticed it was still in beta.
This may seem an overly dramatic question, but as our game accounts and characters are very dear to us, what guarantees do we have regarding the underlying overlay technology, i.e. are you 100% certain using it will not result in a ban?

I will let Jesse respond to this too, but the overlay doesn't mine any data, doesn't interact with the game code, and I've never seen anything in Blizzard's EULA that deals with overlays. The overlay doesn't interact with the game data, doesn't macro, etc. Its just another program running on your machine. In addition, I know there are Ventrilo overlays which would be analogous to this and I've never seen anyone say that Blizzard has an issue with them.

Yes. Because of the way we do our overlay (at the hardware level of the computer), we don't interrogate the game files at all and that means Blizz and Mythic don't care. For the record, we also work with Punkbuster, nProtect and other anti-cheat tools.

When it comes to Firefox it comes down to interface vs. source integration. IE gives us the full COM interface, in order to deliver a browser in game, we have to have very fine control over every UI element the browser displays to ensure that they can be redirected into the game. There is an ActiveX interface for Firefox, but it is not nearly as complete as it needs to be. In order to correctly deliver Firefox in game, we need to integrate at the source, which is prohibitively expensive

Although we don't have it right now, it is possible for us to put in that functionality. I put a ticket in for it, wouldn't expect it until after new year though.

So, far I haven't seen any real value to having Playxpert in Warhammer Online.
Most of the stuff I would want to access using it is already available in game anyway, e.g. Guild Calendar, Guild Roster. Though I can see the benefits for World of Warcraft as there are things like DKP to be monitored for raids.
The problem I have is providing this information on my Guild Site for players who are not currently in-game, and PlayXpert doesn't really help with that at all.
