Guild Launch News
Mike is leaving the country!
I was going to post this in my blog area, but I want to make sure all of you see it.
Tomorrow, October 24th I will be leaving for Shanghai, China. I will be there for two weeks and should be back to work on November 8th.
Support tickets will still be answered, albeit a bit delayed as Stephen is out of the office this week as well! Best of luck to Michael.
So, I will see you all again in a few weeks. Best of luck to each of you in your games. Stay safe and happy hunting!

LOVE the Karaoke bars. How come Asians are the only ones really into Karaoke? It's such a bonding activity.
UPDATE - The trip has been a blast. I almost missed they layover in Detriot and the one in Tokyo. I have never run so fast in my life. I got here Thursday night Shanghai time and it is now Monday morning. We are 12 hours ahead of EST.
So far, things here have been amazing. Very few people speak English and the only other non-asians I have seen are with tour groups. Children tug on their parents sleeves and point at me as they pass and I will get the occasional dirty look. That aside, everyone has been very friendly and as helpful as they can.
My friend and I have gone to a park, the Jade Buddah Temple and some garden that I can not remember the name of. We have also visited several shopping malls (she keeps telling me that each one is her favorite). The malls here are giant, I have not seen one smaller than 7 floors.
I walked more this weekend than I have in my entire life. No one in Shanghai can drive. Bikes, boats, cars, busses ... anything. I am almost afraid to take a taxi and it is something you have to experience to believe. So far, I have traveled on the wrong side of the road in a bus, taken a u-turn across 8 lanes of traffic at a red light in a taxi, almost hit several times while I was driving a boat, and have been very close to being run over by numerous bikes and motorcycles.
It has all be an amazing experience and I highly suggest anyone interested in coming here try it. I have never experienced anything like it.
I have taken many pictures and will put them on the internet somewhere and give you all the link.
Mithoron - This is a mix of work and pleasure! I came to China to visit a friend and she will be working during the days. I will be answering support tickets at that time. With the amount of fun I am having, I hope I can convince Stephen to let me live here and work for him! =P
Osyshnir - I have not been able to smell you since I left the states! You did not get the invite? I will have to send some emails ...
Babiekins - I have had KFC already and am planning to do Pizza Hut later this week. None of the Chinese food I have had is anything like in America, and the KFC was similar (its hard to make different fried chicken) but did not have many of the same side dishes. We had all you can eat sushi and I think that restaruant might change their policy! Thanks for the tip on the karaoke bar. I have made plans for that later this week also.
Goldstryke - You seem as if you have much experience at the karaoke bars. Do you have any tips or pointers for me?
Hhoky - Aside from the fight and the hotel everything here is very affordable. I ate breakfast yesterday for $2. Ham, Eggs, Bacon and coffee. Granted, some things can be a tad pricy, but most things are so cheap. According to Wikipedia, the average Shanghaienese makes under $8,000 USD a year. Considering that, if you can bring $2,000 for a couple of weeks you will be rich!
Dreams - I started a blog to post about the trip daily, but I can not access it from China. =( I checked everything except that before I left. I am looking for a different solution, and as soon as I find it I will post it here. Shanghai has been amazing and as I said, I highly suggest visiting it. I will let you know all about the Karaoke bar after I go. =)
Thank you all again, and I will be in touch!

Mike,
I spent two years living in the Philippines from '00-02. It's not quite Shanghai, but everything you're describing is making me "homesick" for lack of a better phrase. The driving there was just as you describe it; fast, insane and extremely unconventional. With regards to the Karaoke bars, if they're anything like they are in the Philippines, you'll notice that a lot of people are singing American pop songs. Find out which ones are most popular and sing those (unfortunately they'll probably be mostly love songs ). You'll probably get a free drink or two by chumming up to the locals that way.
Man, so many memories. I'll have to make a trip back soon. Glad you're having a blast.

P.S. Use this opportunity to try as much local food as possible. You'll never have food like this in America. The stuff they sell on the side of the road, while it may not sit with your stomach at first, is probably the best tasting stuff ever! I gotta quit talking or I'll fill this entire page.
P.P.S. The further you get away from the cities, the better experiences you'll have. Especially if you try and mesh with the locals. For some reason they love seeing Americans trying to be like them. Okay, now I'm really stopping.
