Introducing the new Community Manager!
Hi guys! My name’s Kate Farrow and I’m the new Community Manager at Launch Media Network. I'll be working on the GameSkinny and Gamer Launch sites. You'll see me around the forums, social media, and support, so drop me a line! :D Don’t be shy!
I’ve been playing video games since Super Mario World (Super Nintendo). The first console that I bought with my own money was the Sega Genesis, and I played Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Primal Rage, and some majorly pixelated racing game where your car would explode if you were on the grass for too long. My parents’ #1 form of discipline was “confiscating” my video games when I would misbehave. Before the days of save points, my best friend and I would stay up WAY past bedtime on weekends playing games with the lights off and the volume down so we wouldn’t wake my mom. If we heard her coming, we’d turn off the TV but leave the game system on and pretend to be asleep. When the coast was clear, it was back to gaming.

Enough about me. I’m excited to meet you guys! Tell me about yourselves!
o/ Welcome!
My strategy for playing games undetected was to have a laptop, and turn the brightness waaaay down, and play with the screen pointed opposite the door. Totally worked. I almost never got walked-in on!
I'm a site admin (colloquially, "techie genius") for the guild Pathfinder in SW:TOR. Our site is over at http://pf-enclave.org (yes, this is a Guild Launch site with an Ultimate subscription!).
Whenever we have technology getting in the way of fun, whether it be Lanteus' temperamental cable connection; Oxener's overheating video card; the ChatWING widget's JavaScript (that was mighty fun to write; yes!) or the pesky, feature-deprived application form confusing new applicants, you can count on someone pinging me, "Hey Coorbin...." on TeamSpeak to get it solved.
It's kinda that way at my day job, too. I hired on as a web app tester, 4 years ago. Now I develop software, mentor fresh-out college hires, write technical documents for the customer, fly around trying to recruit people, give training classes to my colleagues, and work with the upper management on policy and governance. I think the CEO's secret agenda is to gradually ramp me up to working 24/7, at which point he can fire everyone else in the company and let me do everything. (Where in the kriff are the emoji in here?! Goodness...)
- Favorite childhood game: Major Stryker
- Favorite game genres: MMORPG, sandbox, survival, turn-based strategy

- Listens to: traditional pop (vocals), rock, new age
- Reads: Slashdot, Anandtech, Phoronix, LWN... basically technical news media and news for nerds. Trying to keep up with all the new stuff coming out while working 60+ hours a week and being a core member of an MMO guild.
If I could pick one thing to be enhanced about the Guild Launch platform, it would be: either give us a REST API to make people guild members by supplying their email address (and either invite them to make a new account that immediately joins the guild, or let them sign-in); OR, just make the application forms not suck. :) For instance, conditionally displayed fields would be super-great-awesome. Make it like Surveymonkey, or as close to it as your programmers can sanely get. ;)
Oh, and HTTPS support, please. :3
@Coorbin: Whaaaat?! Somebody else that enjoys white tea?? I'm gonna try not to nerd out on you...but I'm a huge tea snob. Tell me about your tea, Coorbin.
And um...it sounds like your job keeps you SUPER busy! How do you still have time for SW:TOR?? Or sleep? Or Dragon Age (<3 <3) AND Witcher?! You are clearly superhuman. Tell me your secret.
But in all seriousness, thanks for your feedback! I'm hoping to solicit more feedback from guilds currently using Guild Launch, so look for something in the General Discussion forum sooooon. :3
