UPDATE - Morning Backups
I apologize for the extra maintenance downtime this morning.
As many of you may have noticed the morning backups are running a touch longer than they used to and becoming more performance impactful. We used to be able to run the backups in a 3-5 minute downtime window. Then the site would be a touch slow for about 5 minutes. This is proving to no longer be the case. The backups are running about twice that long and causing more noticeable performance impact.
First off, we apologize for the inconvenience and assure you that we have been working to remove the daily morning backups altogether and replace them with a weekly backup and another process that makes sure we get all the daily changes without running a full backup. This backup process is very important and testing the new process has taken a touch longer than we had hoped.
Jun is working on this as we speak, and has been for a few weeks. He has been testing software and verifying that the backup software works as expected. As soon as we resolve a few technical issues and make sure that the backup quality is as solid as our current method we will turn the new backup process on.
Thanks for your understanding.
