GL Addons for BFA
Hey guys!
I don't know why it took me this long to realize this, but with the removal of all loot options and forced personal loot, is there any remaining reason to have a DKP system at all?
The only decision left in the hands of guild leadership is membership of the guild and a raid invite. I think CT_RaidTracker will still be useful for tracking attendance, but even then, what decision do you make off of attendance other than removal from the guild?
Just looking for some opinions from you guys.
I've got a pretty stable version of CT_RaidTracker that I'm almost done with.

From a personal point of view, I've never used DKP .. I use the addon to show who attended and received what loot. But we don't actually *do* anything with that information .. it's more a way to show in the loot widget who got shinies ;-)
I have actually occasionally used it in-game when someone starts questioning who got what loot .. I can then look back on the addon and see who received it, at least initially.
I think it's one of those things that, for me at least, is classed as a value added extra item - it adds something additional to your sites and to our home pages (or whichever page you put the widgets on).
I do know that there has been a fair amount of uproar on the Blizzard forums, and elsewhere, about the forced loot change. Potentially they may change it back (perhaps for guild only groups?). There is some leeway for continuing to use DKP even with the new PL system, as it does still lead to the option to transfer loot.
Our guild uses a "donations" policy for personal loot - if someone gets loot that is not classed as an upgrade, and they don't want it, they have the CHOICE to donate it to the raid group. At which point we just do a need/greed roll via a loot master. However, other guilds may choose to enforce some rule that REQUIRES people to give up loot that isn't classed as an upgrade, at which point I'm assuming they could still use the DKP system.
Obviously it depends on how much work it takes to maintain this addon and keep it working with the websites - if you feel that the time you spend on it could be better spent in areas which are more likely to retain and attract new users, then I'd go down that route. But I'd also be wary of making that type of decision too often, or GL may become just another generic hosting site ;-)
Oh .. and as we're on the subject of the raid tracker addon and the rapid raid widget .. the widget appears to have had broken links for quite some time for all of the little loot pictures .. just a heads up ;-)
aaaand .. whilst we're on the subject of addons part 2 ... did anyone ever look into the idea of potentially having an addon that would enable an export/upload of the guild calendar?
I know you have one that does something similar for character info (or did, at least .. I don't think I ever used that) and it feels like a similar idea - open calendar in-game, addon scrapes info, which you can then upload to the website (ideally automatically, but I get that might be a bit more complicated - although there is an automatic uploader you might be able to use called Uniuploader - I use this to upload census data to Warcraftrealms)

Poisonenvy could you give me a bit more info please on what this actually does, does it work on Classic more importantly :)
Not sure if you're asking for more information regarding the census addon I use, or the uploader. If it's the uploader .. then that is completely seperate from wow .. it's just a programme that you can use to upload data to a set site. To be honest, I'm not really sure how or why it works .. I just followed the instructions on the census website to get it working. All it does upload a set file to a set location. It doesn't create the data.
As far as the census addon - the one I use, and that has been going for years, does not currently support classic. Because the idea behind the census is to take a census of everyone online in your faction, on your realm, at the time you're online, and then upload it to a website with data then put together from many users to give a better idea of realm population. The site itself is basically hanging on by a thread and just keeping it actually working is problem enough for those running it, especially after an update by Blizzard which effectively stopped the census addon working at all in the way it had been since the days of Vanilla WoW. So .. they managed to get a workaround for the addon for retail WoW, and get the website up and running again, but so far there has been little update relating to Classic. I suspect, at least for that site, they won't be doing it, because it would mean creating two seperate sites, in effect. I'm not even sure if it will survive the next expansion, as they'll have to deal with a pretty massive level squish.
There WAS another site that was running alongside classic .. the author of that took the regular census addon and adapted it for classic, however, that was prior to Blizzard's changes, and the data uploaded gave very little information other than realm population/activity .. you couldn't drill down, for example, onto specific guilds or characters.
