Spam on website ... block IP?
Hi. I seem to recall at some point being able to view someone's IP address when they visited our site - so that I could then use that to ban/block them from our site.
We had the same user post three spam posts on our public forums - I've banned them using the username, but of course these people always end up creating more. I guessed IP address might potentially be more successful, but I just can't find where to get that information.
Any suggestions?
I mean it's not a big issue .. we don't get many. Just curious.
If you look on the forum thread itself and click the Reply drop down menu, you should see an option "IP Information". That's where you can get the IP from, then you go into Admin Menu->Permissions->IP Ban to ban that IP.
There is the downside to banning IP's that spammers often use VPN's, so they are hopping around different IP addresses constantly. Still worth a shot to ban the IP they came from originally.
