PHP Memory Errors, PHP Bug Strikes Again
The bug in PHP that is causing occassional memory errors struck again yesterday and this morning. We have been evaluating our options and we are going to be downgrading PHP until the PHP team can verify they have fixed the problem. Every time we think we have this bug nailed down it pops up again in some unexpected way. The thing I want to stress to you all, is that this issue eats at us to our core and we are working on it in every way we can and we have limited the effect of the bug greatly. Unfortunately, it's not in our code directly so I can't "get in there and fix it" completely.
We have followed the recommendations from php.net as far as we can, and random service interupting issues from their software is unacceptable. Downgrading PHP should fix this issue in the short term and we will upgrade again when PHP says they have the bug resolved.

Stephen, should we have any concerns that downgrading to an earlier PHP will break any of the custom code you all have in place? Will it affect any of our applets and such?
