Sites Running Slowly
Sat. 5:20am Eastern
Our dedicated hosting company is telling us that this afternoons 1.5 hours of slowness was caused by a construction project (someone elses construction project, not theirs) which cut into or otherwise ruptured 2 of their 3 primary connections to the internet. They activated their secondary and tertiary failovers to compensate.
This is why we remained up and accessible, but connections to the servers were very very slow. Our data facility has very redundant connections which is why we even remained accessible. Considering the magnitude of the "injury" to their primary connections recovering in an hour and a half is quite good even if it certainly shouldn't have been necessary in the first place.
Uptime and speedy accessability is critical to us and you guys, and we'll keep in touch with the hosting facility to see what they plan to do about this type of occurence in the future.
7:00pm Eastern
The upstream issues have been fixed. I will be contacting our provider to see if they can give me some more info on the cause and their future plans.
5:30pm Eastern
The data center where our servers are located is having an issue with their upstream internet connections. Unfortunately, the issue is affecting all of our servers since it is upstream from us.
They have their engineers working on it and I will update you all when we know more. They were unable to tell me exactly what the problem was when I contacted them earlier. When we know more I will update this post.

p.s. This video streams from youtube and will hopefully entertain you during the slow time:
