HARDWARE UPDATES: September & October
Greetings Everyone,
I wanted to give you all a heads up of some hardware updates that will be coming towards the end of September and into October. We will of course make additional updates as the actual dates get closer, but the sooner we get the word out the better everyone is informed.
Sigs, Advertising & Thumper's VSpy Upgrades - September 24th (Tentative)
On September 24th we are planning to take the sigs server, advertising and Thumper's VSpy server offline for a hardware upgrade. This upgrade is to improve the performance and stability of those services.
The total time for the upgrade should be about 20 minutes since the hardware will be preconfigured. However, this upgrade requires an IP Address change so due to prorogation times some users may find the server inaccessible for longer. The old IP may still be usable during this time, but we haven't nailed this down yet.
Primary Database Server Upgrade - Mid October
In Mid October we are planning a major upgrade to our database server. We aren't performing this upgrade to solve any issues, but to allow for continuing growth.
This upgrade will involve a full backup of the current database and then loading that backup into the new database. Total downtime could be as much as 5 hours, but we are working with our system engineers to lessen or remove that downtime.
So, I just wanted to give you an idea of some planned upgrades and downtime. I figured you all would like to know whats going on behind the scenes and the more informed you all are the better things go.
Enjoy!
Stephen
