Sneak Peak Version 2.6 - Get Your Group On
We are overhauling the signup process in 2.6. We are leaving the current system largely intact with a few key adjustments and then adding on "Grouping" capabilities.
Adjustments to the current system:
1. Signups will be adjusted to Guild Time so you can enforce things like "Must signup 6 hours before the raid."
2. When a person removes their signup they will be struck out on the list, instead of removed. They will not show anywhere where the total number of signups are shown or in the summary list.
3. We will add the ability for the event to have a time that signups end. Late signups will be allowed but marked as late.
4. The current system becomes the "queue". If you want simple signups, then you can use just the queue in the same way you do now. If you want more then the "additions" part is for you.
5. A person can remove an individual charater signup, they will no longer only have the option of removing all signups from an event.
We will not be enforcing a signup time as some have asked because we think that becomes difficult for the admin to manage. We would rather allow the admin to enter a time and then flag people who are late. It is then up to the admin's discretion how to handle the person who's signup was late.
Additions to The System
Groups, Groups and Groups. The "Groups" functionality will allow people to have raid leaders or a guild admin assign people to various groups on the event signup page. It could be as simple as a single group titled "In The Raid" that the raid leader then "approves" people into or as complex as being broken down by raid role. It is up to you. The primary intent here is to allow people to have 20 people signup for a 10 person raid and then communicate to the users which 10 have been approved for the raid. However, we think the implementation will be flexible enough that people will come up with other interesting uses.
1. We will be adding the ability to add "Groups" to Calendar and raid signups. These groups can be created on the fly and can have a max number of participants. A person with calendar rights or raid rights can assign people from the queue to any of these groups, or multiple groups with commands like "Move" and "Copy."
2. The group sets will be savable as "Group Templates", if one of your Events consistently has two groups a "Melee: Max 5" group and a "Priests: Max 5" group you can save that off as the "Xyz Instance" template, then reload the two groups with a single click. This will be very powerful for people who want to do full role based grouping.
Some people will ask why we don't save it by event name and auto load the template. We could do that, but this way is far more flexible and only requires a single click and some forethought to give you *alot* more power.
Also, this will reload the Group configuration, not the characters signed up.
3. The signup summaries on the raid and calendar will have a hover added that shows each group and the number signed up and the max signups for that group. So in the example above if only 3 melee had been assigned, but 7 total were in the queue it would show "Melee 3/5" on the hover of the "(7)" text on the signup column.
Groups will be individually configurable per event, but the template system will allow you to quickly load default group sets. This is going to be an awesome system when it's in place.

AWESOME! Wish I would have thought of some of these
Hehehe, seriously VERY HAPPY to hear some of these making it into the next release!
One quick question...

One quick question...

What happens if they sign up, cancel, and then re-sign up...is the name unstruck, does the timestamp change to the new signup or stay the same?
Can't wait to try the Group functionality as well...sounds like a massive improvement!
Thanks!

Each signup will be a new signup. So if they remove themselves and signup again they get a new signup. They will show with the original signup struck out and the new signup normal.
This decision was made to allow people discretion on how to handle the signups. It was also done so that if a raid leader assigns a person to a group then they remove their signup so the raid leader assigns up someone else to the group, then the first person signs up again they don't "reappear" in a group. Also, doing it this way means you know the series of events for that signup instead of only having the most recent signup.

OK, so the struck through is more just a display thing on the front end so it's not included in the back end for calculating numbers etc., correct?
Yep

I'd like to get it out for the 21st, but we'll have to see. Things are coming together nicely so I should be able to finish up tomorrow. Wich will give us most of next week to test and make sure everything is buttoned up.

One other thing...and probably should go into the feature's request, but seems to be along the same lines as the group.
Would it be possible to have a catch-all description for raids? I usually type the same thing in each raid as a listing of rules/guidelines and would be nice to just have a template or such I could use (maybe even keeping the same time and just changing the date).
In addition, being able to make recurring raids would be really nice!

Can you specify what your guild leader thinks "old rapid raid" means? The new features and whether you choose to use them is entirely up to you. There aren't any changes only additions to rapid raid in this release. You can ENTIRELY choose whether to use those new features or not, it is completely up to you.
The only changes really are some layout changes and people can remove their signup and they get a strikethrough instead of being deleted. The signup groups functionality is completely optional and if your guild leader likes the other way, then tell them not to use the functionality. Tell him not to click the buttons, it is up to them.
If you choose to use the old features in the same way you used to use them that is up to you. There is no "old rapid raid" because we haven't changed anything.

I wonder if there is anyway to go back to the old rapid raid, Our raidleader doesn't like the new rapid raid very much

Hi, thank-you for the changes, but is it possible to completely removed the person instead of the strike-out? A member posted alot of text in the notes field, and i'd rather know who wants to come not who changed their mind/notes.

We'll look into it and see what the options are. We can't make every possible feature of the site configurable or everything on the site will have a lever or a switch associated with it and the whole process gets bogged down.
There are alot of users who want to see who removed their signup. It is something that is relatively easy to ignore if we use the strikethrough, but impossible to know if we remove the signup completely.
