Unplanned Ventrilo Downtime - 3/19 - Chicago
Greetings Everyone,
I sincerely apologize for the Ventrilo downtime this morning. In an effort to improve quality and to improve uptime and to improve our offering in our Chicago datacenter where a large number of our Ventrilo servers are hosted we we're going announce a core switching downtime maintenance window today for the 21st of March.
Unfortunately, someone in the datacenter moved that maintenance up to today the 19th without telling us. We're working on finding out why this was done as obviously that is completely unacceptable. Due to this error we will be crediting all Ventrilo servers in our Chicago datacenter with a day of service.
The switching upgrades should be complete shortly and normal operation of all servers in the Chicago datacenter will return. I will keep this post updated as we know more.
-Stephen
UPDATE: 10:30am EST - The Data Center is reporting that they expect the servers to be up within the hour.
UPDATE: 11:45am EST - When it "rains" it "pours"...
The hardware relocation is nearly complete. Unfortunately, the upstream network provider was having issues which is extending the maintenance even further.
After speaking with Network Engineering, they believe everything will be up and online within 1 hour (by 12:30am EST).
I deeply apologize for the downtime. They are doing everything they can to get things back up and running. Right now our priority is getting the machines back online. Once that is done we will investigate why this downtime window was unexpectedly moved up.
UPDATE: 1:00pm EST
The maintenance is now complete in Chicago, IL. We'll be working with the Data Center and Network Engineering to find out more details about the extended nature of the outage.
As always, we truly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while this maintenance, and subsequent Network Issue, was worked out.
