Guild Launch News
PERFORMANCE ISSUE - 11/13/2007
UPDATE: 6:20pm Eastern
It appears that tremendous World of Warcraft Patch Day traffic caused issues in Apache and caused the server to start responding poorly for about 45 minutes. We constantly monitor load on the primary Guild Launch servers and the amount of patch day traffic was considerably higher than we expected.
As many of you know based on other sites WoW patch day traffic can be orders of magnitude greater than standard traffic. Blizzards forums are slow, CT_Mod's site goes into a "low bandwidth" mode and a few others respond similarly.
What do we do for the future?
Well, we literally took delivery today of new web hardware for Guild Launch which includes a new firewall, load balancer, 2 load balanced web servers and some serious database hardware. This hardware was ordered a few weeks ago and will be online soon. Another major patch day will not occur before this new environment is brought online and we expect no performance problems of this type to occur again in the foreseeable future. In addition this new environment allows us to readily scale out to accomodate growth.

INITIAL STATUS: 5:11pm Eastern
Guild Launch is currently experiencing some form of a network anomaly and our network engineers are looking into the issue.
At this point it appears that someone may be trying some form of a Denial of Service timed to coincide with heavy patch day traffic.
We will stay on top of this and keep you all updated as we know more.

Hehehe, well, if people can't get online, they visit their guild website :mgreen:
Particularly today we were uploading new addons as they were released as well as everybody reading the finalized patch notes, so at any one time our guild site had 8-12 people on it...multiply that by all the other WoW guilds, LOL...
Ah well, sounds like the new hardware will definitely help!
