Item Level Designations on Item Stat Hovers
In the next release we have already finished work on a fix for items with the same name and different item levels. I would consider this fix to be a partial solution however because it still requires you to put the item ID as the item name. What it *will* fix is when people refresh the lower item level item it won't remove the item info for the higher level item and vice versa. Which is a good improvement.
So, now that we've got that nailed down we're still noodling over how to handle the variable item level items. So, I would like to toss out the current idea and see how it sounds to you all.
Essentially, what we are considering is allowing user to put the name and then the item level in braces after an item, like this:
Aegis of the Coliseum (232)
Aegis of the Coliseum (245)
This way you will get one and the other based on item level. If an item of that ilevel was not found it would just fall back to using the item name and whichever item it found on WoWHead. It will usually be the lower ilevel item.
Our reason for this approach is that if Blizzard does another instance this way at level 85 then the item levels will be 280 and 295 (or something similar) so a simple designation of (Heroic) doesn't actually apply and doesn't give us an easy growth path. We would have to redefine what iLevels map to "Heroic" in each case.
What we will then do is add Heroic iLevel designations to events and Heoric designators to raids. Then you can put the iLevel for the heroic items on the event. Then if you add Aegis of the Coliseum to an Anub'arak event in a Heroic raid the system will append the iLevel.
When importing from the mod we are going to switch to using the item ID which will not require any of that.
So, what do you think? Will that work for you all? Does it sound workable?

It would be global for all itemstats so in a forum post you could put the following and get the two different items:
- Code: Select all
[wowitem]Aegis of the Coliseum (232)[/wowitem]
[wowitem]Aegis of the Coliseum (245)[/wowitem]
