Guild Launch News
Version 8.0 - Templates, Multi-Game, Rift & More!
Greetings Everyone,
UPDATES: 2/19/2011
Greetings Everyone,
Since release we have made some adjustments and we are further evaluating some items.
1. WoW Imports should now be working for 99% of guilds. We are evaluating some cases where the Armory reports more characters than are actually listed and this is throwing off some checks we have in place to ensure the data is valid. We're working on a fix.
2. Your main Guild tabard may be knocked out by the second import. We're evaluating a fix for this.
3. We wanted everyone to know that even though we call it 'Multi-Game' functionality any distinct combo of Game, Server and Name is valid. So, you can do multi-server also and even same server, multi-faction if the guilds have distinct names. (non-distinct names might work, but will be confusing)
4. The new signup disabling is pool wide and not (yet) per raid, but now that the functionality is there for global disabling we have the hooks for raid specific disabling and it's a future possibility for sure.
5. We're aware that some headers on the new templates look out of place. We will most likely be changing headers on Monday to work more like they did in the previous templates and then adding additional controls to add back in the effect we wanted to get in the new templates. 1 step back, 2 steps forward in other words. Your template look might change slightly after this, but it will be for the better for most of you.
6. We have had instances where users say the Apply to Guild link is missing in IE for some users. We can't reproduce this at all. We need IE version numbers and OS version info to try to track this one down. Also, is it just the link or the entire widget?
7. There have been a handful of reports out of the 10s of thousands of people who have used the new templates of laggy loads or slow scrolling. As far as we know we fixed this almost immediately in the new templates by disabling fixed scroll backgrounds to fix a Firefox bug. If this is still happening to you then please post explicit info about your install such as browser name, version, os name, version and any addons you have.
Without that info we can't hone in on the reason this is happening (or if it is happening any more) when it is a very tiny percentage of users.

There is a new template and there were improvements to imports. The improvements to imports are mostly behind the scenes though. In addition the DKP Tracking features for Rapid Raid are useful and have been requested by LOTRO guilds, though the feature is not LOTRO specific.
Are you looking for a specific sort of LOTRO feature? We do have more templates planned.

I'm curious, what LOTRO updates were added with V8.0 besides the new template? Unless I'm missing something.

I'll see what we can come up with for suggestions, but more LOTRO templates are definitely appreciated. How does this DKP tracking thing work exactly?

Seems that the LOTRO character update function works much better now though it still does not pick up images or definitions for all items. Great work team.

I think I misunderstood what you were talking about. My apologies. There was an error with settings souls at all and we've fixed it. The Roster issue is related, but different. I've fixed it on your site. When everyone switches to the live servers it will also update their roster columns to the new info.

Nope, sorry, still doesn't work.
I also tried with a different character that didn't have any calling yet, and it ended up with same problem. It looks like one column is missing (the faction).
So, your faction ends up in the race column, and your race in the class column.
(Tried it on a third character that was displaying OK and now is messed up the same way).

I have a question. Will the multi-game function at some point be made available, at least with limited functionality, to those guilds who cannot afford to pay a subscription? The reason I ask is because I myself have a guild that supports more than one game (much like 99 percent of the guilds out there, from my understanding), and I know for a fact that mine is not the only guild on guild-launch that can't afford a subscription but would like to have multi-game functionality. I don't know who they are, I just know they are out there. I'm asking this for all concerned, whoever they may be, myself included. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer myself, but I just wanted to be sure I had an official response before submitting myself to speculation.

GOod point, this made me look at ours more closely and i realized same issue was happening.
Nice Update guys just a couple issue I see on my Guild's site, the Who's Online widget is not updating and the Recruiting Widget has a blank spot where apply to guild used to be. You can hover over it and the link is still there but the text isn't showing up, thanks!
--Edit Recruiting Widget looks fine in Chrome but not in IE.

Thanks, Stephen! It works GREAT!
Now, keep in mind that I am new to guildlaunch, at least as a site admin. Where can I find the raid functions specific to RIFT, please?
Again, thanks a lot.

Hi Stephen,
Looks very nice all!
One question though. I already like my template. But I'd like to cycle through some other backgrounds for Rift. Might you share where you hid those? The template and new Wizard don't get me there. A PM works too. ;)

Sure thing. We have a set of Life, Death, Air, Water, Fire, Earth templates coming out next week and will be adding all the background to the template editor at that time. They didn't quite make it into 8.0. Here are the current backgrounds though:

Since new update, half the page (the content below the banner) will not load at all in Safari...

I can't say that we will never offer the functionality to Ad-Supported sites. However, we feel that this particular functionality has great value and should therefore be a premium feature. In addition, the Ad-Free sites *do* support multiple game functionality. They just don't support multiple imports, and the future multi-application functionality, etc. It's not an absolute necessity, you can create 100 free sites and get similar functionality with creative interlinking.
Also, our product is very reasonably priced. I don't know your situation and won't try to tell you that you can spend $6.00 a month, but part of our reasoning was that if you have a guild with enough people to make the multi-game functionality truly useful then $6.00 can probably be found amongst your members.
That being said, as we extend the functionality further into multi-apps, multi-recruiting, game specific styling in sections, etc. we will certainly evaluate turning the core rostering functionality into ad-supported functionality.
We will of course look at usage patterns and if it makes sense to expand the availability then we will.
