Guild Launch News
Blogs, Hammerknell & other Enhancements
Today we have launched a new Blog feature, added new Raid Progression info for Rift and added a few other enhancements. Also, our Summer LagKiller competition continues. You can win your guild a prize package worth $1,500.
Blogs
All Users and Characters now have a blog area on their profile. This area has the core feature set common to any blog. A post stream, an archive and WYSIWYG post creation. Your feedback on this new feature is very much appreciated.
This is the core of a cluster of features such as blog widgets, blog highlights on profiles, etc. Those items will be coming soon, but we wanted to put the content creation tool in you all's hands first and get some feedback.
Hammerknell Raid Progression
The Hammerknell bosses are now in the system for Rift Raid Progression.
Other Enhancements
We have removed the small icons from the tabs on the Guild Roster and User/Character Profile pages. We've received feedback that the icons were too repetitive and sometimes felt out of place. We tend to agree so we have removed them. If we re-add them it will be by taking a different approach via a customization option or something similar.

You guys are amazing! *hugs* to you all - keep up the good work - I'm off to play with the new blog options
Okay I've made a new blog post - how do people know I've made one? Is there a widget, a "members blogs" page, an icon next to that persons name in the roster?
A widget is coming, probably Monday, as well as some highlighting on your profile. We figured getting the part that was done out would let you all create some content for the widgets.

Cool, thank you
Depending on how prolific members are (probably not hugely, in my guilds case, but you never know!) it might be worth having the option to have an actual section/page dedicated to blogs too, perhaps more like a news stream with the blogs title and author, together with the first paragraph or so of the text - perhaps even with some sort of rating system (perhaps similar to the facebook "like" button) and an indication of how many replies each entry has had.
If we could select a default number to show, like a widget, that would be, in the words of Bill and Ted, "most excellent"
Or ... the names of each member who has had at least one blog post, together with a link to their latest post (and the ability to go from there to previous ones for that member).
I suppose in theory, if the widget does something like the latter, we may be able to dedicate a full width page to it if we have a lot of "authors" ... ideally once in full width it would give a preview, etc, as per my first para).

I created a blog post .. basic standard stuff ... paragraphs with punctuation, no pictures. Looked fine. No problems.
However, when I went back and edited it, it suddenly acquired "Â" characters wherever I had started a new sentence in a paragraph. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I use a double space after a period/full stop.
Edit .. and when I've gone back to edit those out, they've multiplied to show "ÃÂ"

Problem solved. There was a mistake made in setting the encoding for new blogs that only showed up in certain instances. Your double spaces evoked one of those instances. This is why we like to put things in real user's hands. They always do something interesting with the app...

I JUST love the blog feature!! We are all doing our Character bios and puting them on the site.
It would be cool if we can sort the Character Blogs based on Alliance or team settings
We have three Factions to our fleet and it would nice to have a Blog Widget on each Section page

Are you using multi-game settings to determine which Alliance or team they are in? This should be something we can do. I think that blogs are going to have a set of widgets that focus on various elements:
1. A specific blog
2. Blogs from a specific Multi-Game Guild
3. ??
4. ??

I think so I help with all of it but the Alliance part of it. We all seem to be in the same "main" fleet but when applicants fill out the application they get to choose what "fleet/guild" they want to be part of. Klingon or the two Federation fleets. We have a 'section' page set up for each and it would be cool if we only had the Klingon Characters on the Klingon Widget. It may be that way now b/c I added a Bio-Blog fro my Klingon Character and it has not shown up on the Blog Widget. Yet...
This is quite an exciting feature and I hope the rest of the fleet thinks so as well.
I have noticed as well with myself and the first Character blogger that we both went to our Character and clicked on "blog" but we both used the top 'blog' button which is mean for the User not the Character. I tried to clarify in my fleet forum (how-to) post but it is easy to miss the other 'blog' link.
