Version 8.3b Release - 7/14/2011 8:15am
On Thursday we will be releasing a small, but fundamental, code change to the live servers. We are designating this as 8.3b to convey the importance as a "release". The actual code level change is very small (2-3 lines of code), but impacts nearly every link on the site. So we're are just adding a letter designation. Anyway, that's all the ins and outs of release numbering I bet you care for, so on to details on the change.
The change we are making will improve two things:
1. There are some, rare, instances where your page location is lost in the application after logging in. So, instead of taking you to the post you were wanting to view that was in a member area it takes you to the homepage or gives you an error. After this change these will be fixed. Logging in will take you to the requested resource each and every time.
2. There is extra URL data carried around in many URLs that is unnecessary for the page you are viewing. This behavior was due to a few early technical choices in the application. We've refactored code and improved how URLs are built to remove these ugly URLs.
The only downside to these changes is that we may create a broken link or two in the application. We intend for these changes to be entirely transparent to you and we are doing our due diligence on our end to ensure that is so, but we want to raise the visibility of these changes so that if any broken links do arise you are aware that it is something we are actively working on and so we can get the links quickly reported.
