Guild Launch News
Blog Widget
With the recent release of the new Blog functionality you also need widgets, so here is the first: The User & Character Blog widget
This new widget displays a configurable number of User blogs and/or character blogs. In sidebar mode the User blogs are above the Character blogs. When placed in the middle area of the site the User and Character blogs are side by side.
Enjoy your blogs!

Do you have specific features for CoD that you have in mind?

I LOVE the new Blog features!!
Would it be possible to have a Guild/Fleet blog added to this. So that you could set up the widget to have User, Guild and Character blogs?
Know that we have interest to blog about the fleet like the newsletter but less formal. Then we could display the Guild/Fleet Blog and then the Character Blogs below that.
I know what you may be thinking… You do something kick A$$ like this and people just want more and are never happy. Well we are SUPER happy and I was just throwing this out there for a Friday afternoon work session
EDIT: I just realized that I can add a new profile called "Admin" and we can add a blog to that and it will show up under the User Blog" Works just fine!

It would be incredibly useful for the blog's to have comment sections where people can talk about them directly on the blog. Commentary is one of the primary drivers of blogging.
Blog comments are coming. We are working on something for comments that will let us abstract them a bit and use them more liberally in other places with reduced programming effort and increased functionality so their release was just out of sync with the blogs.

I sincerely appreciate the sentiment. We want things to work well for you, so we absolutely value the feedback even (especially?) on things that are great but need a bit of something to push them over the edge to pure awesome, sort of like changing the oxygen flow on a torch...
Our intent is to add an additional widget that will show posts from a specific blog (user or character).
Our future intent is to add tagging to blogs, and to then allow that widget to show blog posts tagged a specific way. Then that widget can show posts from any user's blog (or characters) and can be configured to show posts tagged "Guild News" or "Fleet News" or "Battle Group 5 Klingon Sector" or "Med Bay" or "PvP Squad".
Then you can have multiple tags and the same post could be in Fleet News *and* Battle Group 5 Klingon Sector... Just have to get the functionality coded.

How do you "thumbs up" a comment!! That is SO great! I assumed that there is a data base in there that runs this so it would be possible however, it is also nice to keep things simple and work around things.
It ir really cool to see so many top quality features and widgets coming out of Guild Launch and now I am thinking that it is because you work 24 hour shifts and also on the weekend!

Thankfully we don't work 24 hour shifts, but this is my baby so I check in on the forums regularly, and even on weekends, and the team works on the project in the regular 40 hour work week and whenever the mood strikes... which is quite often since we're doing cool things!

On the same note as before with the Alliance question. I just realized that our Multi-Game "guilds" are not showing up on the Blog Widget. Just our main Guild or fleet. Is there anyway to have them show up as well?
I can be patient and wait for your “add tagging to blogs” update but I thought if it was just something that I was doing wrong that I would ask the question.

@marklb
Do you mean that posts from another site are not showing? Or posts from characters set to be in a different multi-game guild are not showing? If the former then that isn't planned. If the latter then there shouldn't be any limitations based on multi-game settings. Are you sure they are making posts?

I am pretty sure they are Multi-Games that are not coming in. We may have it set up wrong but I have one of my blogs in the 'Klingon TOS Faction' and I know that I did that right and one of the fleet did a blog on the character in our TNG sister Fleet. These are the three divisions under out main TOS Veterans Fleet for diplomats and our Alts.
Current Multi-Game Games
TOS Diplomatic Corps
in Star Trek Online on Live Server - Alliance members
TOS Qan Mang Fleet
in Star Trek Online on Live Server - Klingon TOS Faction
TNG Veterans Fleet
in Star Trek Online on Live Server - Our TNG sister Fleet
EDIT: It seems that Jeff (our Site Creator) started us in another fleet and then realized how much work it is to run tow of these just for our alts. He migrated them over but they are still listed in the "TOS Qan Mang Fleet" Is there ant way to migrate them back over? and the other guy that created the blog I don't know all of the details
