Guild Launch News
Update: Domain Name Upgrades
UPDATE
The updates this morning have added 2 key capabilities to Guild Launch:
More Dynamic Full Domain Support
We now support Subdomains for full domains. So, for those of you with alliances, multiple sites, divisions, etc. you can now point SomeSubdomain.YourDomain.com to your site seperately from YourDomain.com.
Technically, you can now point: SomDomain.YourDomain.com, YourDomain.com, SomeDomain2.YourDomain.com to 3 different sites hosted by us, or one external and 2 with us or any combination.
More Primary Domains!
Note: This feature will be fully enabled next week when we add the first additional domain. We want to make sure everything is working with just the current GuildLaunch.com domain and the underlying changes to support this before we add on the additional complexity.
The most noticeable additional feature however is the addition of support for multiple domains for all sites. After we make the new domains live you will be able to create (or update) sites using additional domains, such as:
WoWLaunch.com
LotroLaunch.com
JediLaunch.com
SithLaunch.com
EnderPearl.com
CorpLaunch.com
etc.
We have about 50-60 domains to pull from, but will activate them over time.
We will add new domains slowly so we can ensure that all of the underlying systems are still working. We're excited to be launching this functionality. We have been working on it for a few months and it is a major addition to the site that will let you greatly customize how your guild is presented.
If there are issues with this release they will show up in broken links. We do not expect to have any issues, but if you notice any issues with domain name associations, or broken links, please let us know.
Enjoy!
Stephen

That isn't something you do on our site. Some guilds have branches of their guild and will use a primary domain for the main branch, and a subdomain for a branch. They may have:

That all point to different sites.

Where do you go to set a branch?

I have some questions about this domain business.
For one, if I were to obtain a domain and start using that with my guildlaunch site, will the old url (yoursite.guildlaunch.com) still work or will only the new domain then direct to the site? The old subdomain doesn't get released, does it?
Does switching to a different domain mess with already set up Google Analytics tracking?
And about subdomains. If I'd get a domain from GoDaddy for example, does that enable me to use subdomains also? If I'd for example purchase mydomain.com and would have two paid guildlaunch sites, could I use
siteone.mydomain.com
sitetwo.mydomain.com
to connect to them, or would that require some additional purchases or something from GoDaddy?

Your Subdomain version of your site will always be available. It will only change if you explicitly change the subdomain version for your site. Regardless though some subdomain version of your site will always exist.
Full domains are, in essence, additional ways for users to get to your site.
Switching domains, or starting to use a full domain, should not change your google analytics setup. However, there are advanced setting for GA that would cause issues, but unless you know about them you probably have not enabled them.
When you register a domain you get access to any element "sub" or lower than the domain. So, if you have YourDomain.com you have control over anything before the YourDomain.com part. So, yes, with a single domain purchase you could setup thousands of SubDomains.

Hi,
Sorry to intrude on the thread, I dunno about your first question but I can tell you that GoDaddy.com supports sub domains. You can configure them from your control panel after purchase under the "DNS" section and you need no additional services to do it.
Your example below was right and it's something that's easy to setup and that I do quite often.
I hope I've at least answered 50% of your question!
Kara.

Hi, I currently have a GL domain (example.guildlaunch.com) subscribed, and directed to my custom domain name. I wish to remove the subscription that I have on this GL domain, and switch it to another domain (example2.guildlaunch.com). Can this be done without losing the yearly subscription that I had paid for my old domain? Thanks.
Yes, it's possible. Shoot me an email at support@guildlaunch.com and I can walk you through the process (though it may be tomorrow before it can be done, I'm working from home today due to sickness and don't have access to some of the billing information).
