SNEAK PEAK: Version 4.0 - Guild Application Process Revamp
Here at Guild Launch we are constantly improving our product and we're not afraid to revisit any functionality and admit it needs improvement. To that end, we've been listening intently to our users in regards to the guild application process.
Based on that, we've taken 5 parts user feedback, 4 parts user observation, 5 parts good sense and mixed it with a liberal dose of lessons learned from support tickets and support posts and come up with a much improved Guild Application and Account Creation process. The new process is a Wizard approach that leads the user more gently through the process of creating an account or applying to a guild.
It includes the following refinements:
The end result is that the new process "feels" better to use. The user isn't presented with a wall of text and a giant form that overwhelms their senses and pushes reason out of their brain. Instead they are presented with smaller, more digestable pieces of the process so they can understand and make appropritate decisions along the way.
We're excited about this new process as it is something that has been stewing about in our heads for a while and we've let it mature in our heads until we had the correct approach to implement. The end result is unquestionably better.
Enjoy!

- A multi-step process where the user is presented with one decision or one defined task to complete at each step.
- A visual indication of how many steps are left, what step they are on and how many more steps they have to go.
- Concise and focused guidance relating to each step of the process.
- The user is presented with questions to answer as they go through the process such as "Do you want to Apply to this Guild or Only Create an Account?". They are also presented with concise explanations as to why they may want to do one or the other.
- The user is also asked for their email first, so if an account exists for them we can further emphasize that they should login using that account versus creating a new one.
- The instructions are subtly different whether they initated the process as creating an account or as applying to the guild. They can still end up with either result, but the instructions change subtly to fit more into how the user initiated and thus may be "perceiving" the process.
- The user is presented with a summary of what they accomplished in the process. If they submitted a guild app they are told so. If they only created an account then they are told so. If they created an account they are told what rights the account gives them. If they applied they are informed that the guild still needs to approve it.
- If you have turned on the feature to post guild applications to a forum, then the user is presented with a link to that forum post. If it's in a private forum, they still won't be able to see it, but if it's in a public forum they can go directly to the post.
- It is made more clear that while applying to the guild the user is creating an account for Guild Launch as a whole. This is done so that the user understands the abilities they have with that account and that they understand that the emails they receive for account confirmation come from us.
Enjoy!

Does this mean there will be changes to the custom applications as well or is that going to remain the same?

There won't be any direct changes to custom applications. The custom applications work pretty well already. This *will* give us a bit more room to work with so the textareas are being made larger and the custom app has a bit more space around it and feels less crushed in.
