Well just read the yesterday's ERTS announcement. Though no explicit date has been given they do say "is scheduled to launch in the second half of calendar 2011."

They have just announced they will be taking on sign-ups for testing. This will be closed testing with multiple closed sessions over time. No specific dates for the testing yet, but I suspect it will be soon.
What they never said is if this is pre-launch Beta testing. We can assume since many fan sites like Mos Eisley Radio and Darth Hater have all had closed session testing that we are close to a game launch this year.

Having listened to the analyst call it's well into closed beta testing. In their words it would take 6 months to beta test a game like this but that estimate includes the closed beta in process as well.
